HLTFSE001 FOLLOW BASIC FOOD SAFETY PRACTICES


COURSE DESCRIPTION

This one-day course teaches you how to handle food safely to protect the health of others.


You will learn the basic food safety rules needed when preparing, serving or handling food. This is especially important when working with children, older people, or people with disability or health conditions.


In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Keep yourself clean and healthy when handling food
  • Wash your hands the right way and wear clean clothing
  • Cover cuts or wounds and report if you are unwell
  • Keep food areas clean and tidy
  • Identify and report pests or hygiene risks
  • Store, handle and throw away food safely
  • Follow food safety rules and workplace procedures
     

This training helps reduce the risk of people getting sick from unsafe food.


WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR

This course is suitable for people who work or volunteer in places where food is prepared, served or handled, including:

  • Aged care, disability and community services
  • Childcare and early learning centres
  • Health service kitchens
  • Community organisations, volunteer groups and charity food services


SKILLS THAT HELP YOU DO WELL WITH THIS COURSE

To be successful in this course, it helps if you:

  • Care about keeping people safe and healthy
  • Can follow instructions and workplace rules
  • Are willing to practise good hygiene habits
  • Can pay attention to detail
  • Are comfortable asking questions if you are unsure
     

No previous experience is needed. This is a short, practical course designed to give you the basics in one day.

HLTSS00061 FOOD SAFETY SUPERVISION SKILL SET FOR COMMUNITY SERVICES AND HEALTH INDUSTRIES

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This two-day course is for people who supervise food handling in health or community services workplaces.

It teaches you how to:

  • Keep food safe for people who may be vulnerable, such as older people, children, or people with disability
  • Identify food safety risks and stop problems before they happen
  • Make sure staff and volunteers follow food safety rules
  • Check that food handling follows your organisation’s food safety program
     

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Recognise food safety hazards
  • Monitor how food is prepared, stored and served
  • Guide and support other workers to handle food safely
  • Fix food safety issues when they occur
  • Make sure daily food safety practices meet workplace and legal requirements
     

This course builds on basic food safety knowledge and prepares you to take responsibility for day-to-day food safety supervision.


UNITS COVERED

This program includes the following nationally recognised units:

  • HLTFSE001 – Follow basic food safety practices
  • HLTFSE005 – Apply and monitor food safety requirements
  • HLTFSE007 – Oversee the day-to-day implementation of food safety in the workplace


WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR

This course is designed for workers who already have experience in:

  • Community services
  • Health services
  • Aged care, disability or similar environments where food is prepared or served
     

It is ideal for people who are moving into supervisory or team leader roles and need to make sure others are handling food safely.


SKILLS THAT HELP YOU DO WELL WITH THIS COURSE

To be successful in this course, it helps if you:

  • Understand basic food safety rules
  • Are confident guiding or supervising others
  • Can follow and explain workplace procedures
  • Pay attention to detail and notice risks
  • Are comfortable speaking up if something is unsafe
  • Care about protecting the health of vulnerable people
     

This course is practical and supportive and is designed to build confidence in supervising food safety in real workplaces.
